What this editor does, and what it does not

How saving works

Save .docx (default) edits the file you opened in place. Only the text and formatting you actually changed is rewritten; headers, footers, footnotes, endnotes, comments, styles, themes, section setup, fields and images are copied through untouched. This is the right choice for a real document. Clean rebuilds a fresh Word file from what you see — simpler, but it drops everything the editor cannot model.

What you can edit

Body text, headings and paragraph styles
Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough
Bulleted and numbered lists, alignment, indentation
Hyperlinks; insert and replace images; edit table cell text and add or remove rows
Find and replace, undo and redo, word and character count

What this cannot do

No Word layout engine. Pagination, line breaks and page counts will not match Word exactly, and the printed PDF is not pixel-identical to Word's.
Header, footer, footnote, endnote and text-box text cannot be edited here — it is kept intact and travels with the file, but you cannot change it.
Tracked changes and comments are preserved but not created, accepted or rejected. Insertions show as normal text; deletions are hidden.
Legacy .doc, password-protected files and macro-enabled .docm are out of scope.
Very long documents (100+ pages with images) will be slow.
No real-time collaboration, no spelling or grammar checking.
